Housing Overview for Midnight

Housing launches on December 2 for those who pre-purchase the Midnight expansion. It’s one of the biggest things wow devs have added to the game in a long time. Here’s what you need to know.

Getting Your House

To get your house, you will need to have pre-purchased the Midnight expansion and complete the introductory questline then you will be able to enter the housing district from a portal in either Stormwind (Wizards Sanctum) or Orgrimmar (Portal Room). Each faction will have their own housing zone. If you haven't pre-purchased Midnight, or just haven't bought your own plot yet, you can still visit the neighborhoods.

Here is a step by step guide on how to get your house:

Get Your First House

Build Locations

Alliance is called Founder’s Point and looks like a combination of Elwynn forest, Westfall and Duskwood. It will have 6 different biomes—coastal, farmland, orchards, mountains, Venthyr gothic, Duskwood eerie, fairy lights area.

The Horde area is called Razorwind Shores and looks like Durotar, the coastline and Azshara. It will have coastal cliffs, volcanic areas, forests.

As you browse plots of land there are a few things to keep in mind. This is your forever home, so choose your location wisely. You house is also shared throughout your Warband, so multiple characters will share this house too. You will also only ever get a total of 2 houses, one for Alliance characters and 1 for Horde characters.

There is an option to move your home to a new plot or neighborhood, which you can do if you are unhappy with your plot location.

You will also receive a hearthstone to teleport you right to your home.

Neighborhoods

Housing Town Center in Midnight

Yes, there will be neighborhoods. Public neighborhoods will have 50 plots per instance and Guild neighborhoods can have even more than that to make sure that all guild members can live together, but it will still be 50 per instance, just multiple instances will be linked together. But there will be minimum requirements for a Guild neighborhood (I'll update you when I know what they are).

Each naighborhood will have a central town square where you can find decoration vendors, housing upgrades and dye training.

Neighborhoods will have monthly events called Endeavors where the whole neighborhood has to pitch in to unlock the reward- shared decor and favor currencies. There will also be seasonal events in the neighborhoods too.

These will help you level up your neighborhood and likely get access to better rewards.

Housing Dashboard

The housing dashboard can be accessed from the menu at the top of your screen when you are on your plot. It lets players check their current Neighborhood Favor, track active Endeavors in their neighborhood, teleport directly to their houses, and browse available plots. Additionally, the dashboard functions as a Decor Item catalog, enabling you to search for and preview all available Decor Items.

Where to Get Decorations?

Midnight Housing Vendors in Founder's Point

Decorating your house is the name of the game. You can decorate inside and outside of your house as long as everything stays on your plot. You can move your house around and make additions like windows and towers. But you have to get the decorations first.

If you gained any Reputation in the past, you might be able to use that to get awesome décor right away. For example, if you’re exalted with someone, you can buy decorations from them right away without having to raise your rep again.

The same goes for achievements. If it’s one that WOW has deemed décor worthy and you completed it 10 years ago, you get the décor piece today.

There are thousands of decorations available. You can earn them from:

  • Quests/Achievements: Legacy (e.g., Vanilla dungeons, Legion Order Halls, etc).

  • Professions: Recipes per expansion (e.g., Blacksmithing metals, Jewelcrafting gems and stoneworking, enchanting makes floating books and glowing orbs). You will be using old reagents, so it might be worth it to take the time to level up those old expansion professions.

  • Reputations

  • Delves/Dungeons/Raids/PvP

  • Vendors: Neighborhood-specific (Founder’s Point/Razorwind Shores); Auction House trades.

  • Midnight Epic Edition Perks: Exclusive Light/Void-themed items w/ character portraits.

  • Dyeable: Recent assets (Dragonflight+); legacy recolors planned.

Yes, you will be able to dye your housing decorations. You will need to have inscription or alchemy to make the dyes, but you can also buy them on the Auction House from other players.

Most Prized Decorations

Community favorites (from alpha/PTR feedback):

  • Exalted Rep Sets: Shadowmoon Greenhouse (Alliance Draenor vibe), Zandalari Torches (Horde BfA luxury).

  • Loa Tapestries: Akunda the Exalted (rare quest-locked, thematic Void tie-in).

  • Legacy Trophies: Legion Hall completions, Vanilla boss heads—prized for nostalgia/rarity.
